Decreased vaccination rates associated with the pandemic have led to an increase in international cases of measles over the past year. A measles outbreak was recently declared in Columbus, Ohio. Franklin County and Columbus Public Health advises that children receive the first dose of MMR at 12-months of age and 1-4 year olds receive the second dose of MMR as soon as possible, but at least 28 days after the first dose. While the typical recommendation is to administer the second dose at 4-6 years of age, administering the dose early will provide additional protection during the outbreak.
