Well Care Visits and BMI Assessment Lists
Children ages 3 and older should have their BMI assessed annually; however, up to 40% of opportunities are missed each year. This June, Partners For Kids will send primary care offices a patient outreach list titled “WCV_BMI.” This list is intended to help identify which patients need a well care visit and/or if a BMI code was documented during an outpatient visit. (For more information on how properly code for BMI, click here). This list is also beneficial in determining how many patients are coming to your office for other types of visits, which are opportunities to assess and discuss weight. As you review your lists, be sure to check with your billing and coding department to verify that the BMI codes are not being removed at the time of billing. BMI coding during an outpatient visit is an incentivized quality measure in the 2021 Provider Incentive Program for Community Practices.
