Three Tips to Increase Well-Visit Completion: Strategies from Different Providers Healthy Children Service Line
  1. Pre-visit chart reviews:

Designate a member of your staff (MAs, receptionists or RNs) to help identify opportunities for sick -to-well visit conversions for your overdue patients. Encourage parents to add a well visit for overdue patients who are already scheduled for other visits (ADHD, behavioral health, asthma, etc.).

  1. Encouraging conversion of sport physicals to well-visits:

Sports physicals occurring in primary care offices provide greater continuity of care and a more complete evaluation. See additional details on this, within this article:

  1. Having Reminder Systems in Place:

Multiple studies have shown that simple interventions like phone calls and text message reminders reduce appointment no-show rates. In addition to reminders a few days before scheduled appointments, here are more best practices for sending reminders.

For Morning Appointments: Calling/texting a reminder the evening before an upcoming morning appointment the next day.

For Afternoon/Evening Appointments: Calling/texting the morning of (at least 4 hours before) an afternoon or evening appointment on the same day.
