GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced that effective January 1st 2024, they will no longer be manufacturing brand Flovent® HFA (fluticasone propionate inhalation aerosol) and brand Flovent® Diskus® (fluticasone propionate inhalation powder). Authorized generics of Flovent® HFA and Flovent® Diskus® are available and covered for patients on an Ohio Medicaid plan. Authorized generics are the exact same product as the branded product, without the brand name on the label. If a prescription has refills remaining, pharmacies are allowed to substitute the generic for brand without a new or updated prescription, unless dispense as written 1 (DAW1) was noted on the original Flovent® prescription.  

Patients may be confused about this change and will require reassurance that they are receiving the same medication.
