Flovent® Brand Name Inhalers are Being Discontinued

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has announced that effective January 1st 2024, they will no longer be manufacturing brand Flovent® HFA (fluticasone propionate inhalation aerosol) and brand Flovent® Diskus® (fluticasone propionate inhalation powder). Authorized generics of Flovent® HFA and Flovent® Diskus® are available and covered for patients on an Ohio Medicaid plan. Authorized generics are the exact same product as the branded product, without the brand name on the label. If a prescription has refills remaining, pharmacies are allowed to substitute the generic for brand without a new or updated prescription, unless dispense as written 1 (DAW1) was noted on the original Flovent® prescription.

Patients may be confused about this change and will require reassurance that they are receiving the same medication.

If there any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Partners For Kids pharmacy team: In the central region contact PFKPharmacy@NationwideChildrens.org  and in the west region contact PFKPharmacy@ChildrensDayton.org.
