Antipsychotic Lab Monitoring Information Update

Did you know that glucose and lipid labs are required annually for youth patients who are prescribed antipsychotic medications? Also, a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) does NOT include lipids, so ordering a CMP does NOT fulfill the American Diabetes Association recommendation1 (or the HEDIS metric2) for prescribing antipsychotic medications!

Recently an EHR Best Practice Alert was developed to help remind prescribers to order both glucose AND lipid labs annually. We have a Quality Improvement Coach on staff who can work with practices to improve Antipsychotic Lab Monitoring outcomes, including the Best Practice Alert.
