Did you know that glucose and lipid labs are required annually for youth patients who are prescribed antipsychotic medications? Also, a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) does NOT include lipids, so ordering a CMP does NOT fulfill the American Diabetes Association recommendation¹ (or the HEDIS metric²) for prescribing antipsychotic medications!

Recently an EHR Best Practice Alert was developed to help remind prescribers to order both glucose AND lipid labs annually. We have a Quality Improvement Coach on staff who can work with practices to improve Antipsychotic Lab Monitoring outcomes, including the Best Practice Alert.
